Patriots Split Doubleheader with McNeese State

On Wednesday afternoon, the DBU Patriots split a doubleheader with McNeese State in Lake Charles, Louisiana. 

The Patriots fell 4-3 in the first game and Junior Brice Wells, who stuck with loss, pitching six inning, allowing five hits and four runs. 

McNeese struck first, scoring one run in the bottom of the third and then another run in the fifth. 

DBU scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning on a two RBI triple by Senior Jeremy Goldschmeding and a RBI single by Junior Matt Tucker.  The Cowboys countered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning, retaking the lead 4-3.

In game two, DBU won 11-8 and Junior Ricky Sparks picked up the win, his first of the season.  The Patriots scored three runs in the top of the first on homeruns by Senior Cody Montgomery and Tucker. 

DBU scored two more runs in the fourth inning, but the Cowboys tied the game at five in the sixth inning.  McNeese added three more runs in the seventh to take the lead, but the Patriots responded with six runs of their own in the top of the eighth to retake the lead 11-8, which was all the offense they needed. 

Leading DBU at the plate was Freshman Brandon Bantz, who had a three run homerun and Junior Ross Olsen and Freshman Evan Bigley, who each had two RBI.

The Patriots resume action on Thursday at 7:00 when they host UT-Pan American for a three game series at Patriot Field.
