Patriots Win 9-5

The Patriots from Dallas Baptist University defeated Northwestern State by the score of 9-4 on Saturday afternoon at Patriot Field. With the victory, DBU improves to 31-20 on the season, while the Demons fall to 14-15.

Picking up the win for the Patriots was Junior Rodney Brantley, who improves to 7-1 on the season, allowing just two earned runs.

Leading DBU at the plate was Sophomore Austin Krum, who went 4 for 5 with a RBI and Senior Cody Montgomery, who went 3 for 5 with three RBI. Senior Israel Victor finished the day going 3 for 4 with one RBI.

The Demons from Northwestern did not waste any time to claim the lead, scoring three runs on two doubles and two Patriot errors, taking a 3-0 lead.

DBU got on the board in the second, after Senior Drew Holder drew a walk to lead off the inning and moved to third on a double by Victor. Holder later scored on a wild pitch by Demon pitcher Drew Brown, leaving the score 3-1.

The Patriots tied the game in the third inning, after Krum singled to start the inning and scored on a RBI triple by Montgomery. Freshman Evan Bigley added a RBI single to tie the game at 3-3.

Northwestern State used a solo homerun in the top of the fourth to retake the lead 4-3.

DBU took their first lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. Junior Ross Olson walked and advanced to second on a balk, third on a wild pitch and scored on a RBI groundout by Senior Brad Boles. Krum added a double and scored on a RBI double by Montgomery, making the score 5-4.

In the sixth inning, DBU scored another run after Holder reached on an error and moved to third on a single by Victor. Holder later scored on a double steal to increase the Patriot lead to 6-4.

The Patriots scored again in the sixth, after Tucker walked to start the inning and later scored on a RBI single by Krum. Krum scored on a RBI double by Montgomery, pushing the score to 8-4.

In the seventh DBU added another run, after Bigley doubled to lead off the inning and scored on a RBI single by Victor, increasing the score to 9-4.

The Demons scored one run in the top of the ninth to make the final score 9-5.

DBU resumes action on Tuesday evening at 6:00 when they host the Lumberjacks from Stephen F. Austin at Patriot Field.
