The Dallas Baptist University Patriots swept the series against University of Hawaii-Hilo bringing their record to 27-15 on the season. In the first game of a double header the Patriots used 17 runs to win 17-7 and won the second game by the score of 12-3.
The Patriots struck first in the bottom of the first when Senior Cody Montgomery doubled and scored on a RBI single by Senior Drew Holder making the score 1-0.
The Vulcans answered back in the top of the third with a solo homerun to leftfield by Jimmy Crider. The Patriots preserved the lead when they got out of a bases loaded jam, by striking out Mark Veneri and forcing Tyler Curtis to ground into a double play.
The Patriots followed up in the bottom of the inning when Sophomore JT Bloodworth singled to lead off the inning and advance to second base on Sophomore Austin Krum's sacrifice bunt. Bloodworth scored on Montgomery's single to make the score 2-1.
DBU padded the lead in the bottom of the fourth after Freshman Evan Bigley singled and advanced to third on Senior Israel Victor's double. Senior Brad Boles walked to load the bases and Bloodworth walked in a run to make the score 3-1. The Patriots added two runs on a two RBI single by Krum making the score 5-1 Patriots.
The Patriots scored again in the fifth by scoring an unearned run on a single by Junior Matt Tucker. Tucker then scored on a RBI single by Victor. Freshman Evan Bigley walked and scored after Boles reached based on an error. The Patriots scored a run with a fielders choice and added three runs after Montgomery hit a homerun making the score 12-1.
The Patriots added three more runs in the sixth inning after Freshman Will Stramp doubled and Bigley singled to bring up Boles, who cleared the bases with a three run homerun making the score 15-1.
The Vulcans answered back in the top of the seventh with three singles and a hit batman to load the bases. Second baseman Michael Higa doubled to bring in two runs. The Patriots committed an error allowing another run to score. Hassenritter added a two RBI single and Veneri scored on a sacrifice fly making the score 15-7 Patriots.
The Patriots responded with two more runs in the bottom inning making the final score 17-7 in game one.
In game two, the Patriots and Vulcans stayed scoreless through four innings, until the Vulcans broke through in the top of the fifth with a three run homerun by short stop, Jimmy Crider.
DBU answered in the bottom of the sixth after Freshman Trevor Head lead off the inning with a double. Montgomery cleared the bases with a two-run homerun. Senior Jeremy Goldschmeding singled and advanced to third on a double by Senior Drew Holder. Tucker added a two RBI triple, and then scored on a single by Bigley. Bigley advance to third on a throwing error by the Vulcans catcher and scored on a double by Freshman Brandon Bantz. Bantz scored after Head hit a homerun for his second hit of the inning. The Patriots scored eight runs on eight hits in the inning, leaving the score 8-3.
Montgomery lead off the seventh with another homerun, this one the solo variety for his second of the game and third of the day, for his 14th long ball of the season. Holder added a double and Tucker hit a two-run homerun to make the score 11-3.
Head started the eighth inning with a single and advance to third on a fielders choice by Montgomery. Head scored on a ground out by Goldschmeding making the final score 12-3.
The Patriots will continue action this weekend when they travel to Fresno, California and play Fresno State in a four game series beginning on Thursday.
