Taylor Secures Victory with First Career Save

The Dallas Baptist University Patriot Baseball team defeated Fresno State University by the score of 9-7 on Friday night in Fresno, California.  The Patriots improve to 29-15 on the season and look to improve on that on Saturday afternoon in doubleheader action for games three and four of the series.

DBU scored one run in the top of the first, after Sophomore Austin Krum was hit by a pitch to start the game and later scored on a RBI single by Senior Drew Holder. 

Fresno added a run in the bottom of the second on a RBI double to tie the score, 1-1.

The Patriots responded with five runs in the top of the third inning.  Krum reached on an error and Senior Cody Montgomery followed with a double, increasing his hitting streak to 23 games (a DBU record).  Senior Jeremy Goldschmeding added a RBI single and Holder drew a walk.  Junior Matt Tucker followed with a two RBI single and Freshman Evan Bigley hit a two RBI double to make the score 6-1.

The Bulldogs scored three runs in the bottom of the inning on three hits and a two run homerun to leave the score 6-4.

DBU added three more runs in the top of the fourth.  Senior Brad Boles singled to start the inning and Montgomery reached on an error.  Holder and Tucker drew walks, scoring one run and Bigley reached on another error, scoring two more runs giving DBU a 9-4 lead. 

In the seventh inning, the Bulldogs added three runs on two hits and another homerun, leaving the score 9-7, which would be the final.

Junior Randall Taylor picked up the save, pitching the final two innings, allowing only two hits and striking out four, for his first collegiate save. 

The Patriots will resume action on Saturday afternoon in doubleheader action against Fresno State for the the third and fourth games of the series.
