Patriots Untimely Hitting Results in Losses to #7 Longhorns

The Dallas Baptist University Patriot Baseball team dropped both games to the #7 ranked Texas Longhorns on Saturday afternoon in doubleheader action.  The Patriots lost the first game 6-3 and the second game 10-5 and fall to 31-20 on the season.  

On the day, the Patriot's high powered offense pounded out 22 hits, but left 20 runners on base, resulting in the two losses.

Leading the Patriots at the plate was Senior Drew Holder, an Austin native, who went four for seven with three runs scored and Freshman Trevor Head, who was also four for seven.  

In game one, Texas jumped out to a early 2-0 lead in the first inning, on only one hit, but drew two walks and had a hit batsman.  DBU responded with one run in each the second, third and fourth, but lost 6-3.  

Senior Michael Gardner fell to 4-4 on the season, pitching two and two thirds innings, allowing six hit and five runs, four earned and walking two.  Sophomore Jordan Craft pitched the final five a third innings, allowing two hits and only one run.  

In game two, Junior Ricky sparks picked up the loss, falling to 2-1 on the season, pitching three and two thirds innings, allowing six runs on five hits.  Texas scored one run in the first, but DBU tied the game in the second on a solo homerun by Head.

The game remained tied until the fourth, when Texas scored five runs and chased Sparks from the game.  The Longhorns added four runs in the sixth, two off of Senior Jeff Gilmore and two more off of Junior Randall Tayor.  

The Patriots scored one run in the eighth and three in the ninth, but it was not enough, resulting in a 10-5 loss.  

The Patriots resume action on Tuesday night when they travel to Waco, Texas, to take on the Baylor Bears, beginning at 6:00.
