Krum's Walk-Off Grand Slam Wins Game in 10th Inning

The Dallas Baptist University Patriots break their four game losing streak after a 10 inning contest with UTA, winning 9-5.  The Patriots improve to 32-21 on the year and UTA falls to 23-33.  Senior Stuart Sutherland picks up the win for the Patriots improving to 2-2 on the season.

UTA struck first in the top of the second with a solo homerun to right field to make the score 1-0.

The Patriot's answered back in the bottom of the inning after Senior Drew Holder singled and scored on a two-run homerun by Junior Matt Tucker to give DBU the lead.

The Mavericks tied the score in the next inning with three straight singles.  The Patriots kept the score tied after Holder threw out a runner at home from right field, trying to score from third.

DBU responded in the bottom of the fourth when Holder led off the inning with his 18th homerun of the season making the score 3-2 Patriots.

UTA tied the score again after a solo homerun in the top of the fifth leaving the score 3-3.

Both starting pitchers pitched into the ninth inning holding each team to three runs, until UTA answered in the top of the ninth to regain the lead with one run after a lead off double.  The base runner then scored on a DBU error.  The Patriots got out of another jam after Senior Stuart Sutherland struck out two batters to get out of the inning.

The Patriots tied the game up in the bottom of the ninth after Freshman Trevor Head led off the inning with a single and Senior Israel Victor, who pinch ran, advance to second on a sacrifice bunt by Junior Jimmy Thoma.  Victor then scored on a double by Senior Brad Boles.  The Patriots loaded the bases but were not able to score any more runs.

The Mavericks re-took the lead in the top of the inning after a solo homerun, but were not able to push anymore runs across leaving the score 5-4 heading into the bottom of the 10th.

The Patriots started the bottom of the 10th inning with two walks by Holder and Tucker, who advanced to second and third after a sacrifice bunt by Victor.  Freshman Evan Bigley was then intentionally walked to load the bases and bring up Junior Austin Thornton who walked to tie the game and load the bases one more time.  Sophomore Austin Krum hit a walk-off grand slam over the right field scoreboard to give the Patriots a 9-5 victory.     

The Patriot's will continue action tomorrow night at 6:30 in UTA in game two of the three game series with the Mavericks.
