Senior Michael Gardner lead the Dallas Baptist University Patriot Baseball team to a 3-0 victory of TCU on Tuesday evening in Fort Worth at Lupton Field. Gardner improved to 4-3 on the season, pitching seven and a third shutout innings, scattering three hits and walking one, while striking out five.
With the win, the Patriots improve to 30-17 on the season, sweeping TCU on the season, after defeating them back in February by the score of 9-7, while the Horned Frogs fall to 26-20. Junior Randall Taylor picked up his second save of the season.
DBU scored their first two runs in the fourth inning, after Senior Jeremy Goldschmeding reached first on a base hit bunt and Senior Cody Montgomery followed with a single. Senior Drew Holder advanced the runners on a sacrifice bunt and Junior Matt Tucker added a RBI sacrifice fly. Freshman Evan Bigley hit a RBI single to give the Patriots the 2-0 lead.
The Patriots added another run in the eighth. Bigley doubled down the left field line with two outs and Freshman Trevor Head added a double of his own to score Bigley, leaving the score 3-0, which would end up being the final.
DBU will resume action on Friday and Saturday night, when they travel to College Station to take on the Aggies from Texas A&M.
