The DBU baseball team won their final game of the season against UT-San Antonio in dominating fashion, winning 12-3. The Patriot's finished the 2006 season with a 33-23 record. Senior Michael Gardner picked up his fifth win on the season after pitching six innings, scattering six hits, and allowing three runs.
The Patriot's struck first in the top of the second inning when Junior Matt tucker hit his 14th homerun of the season to make the score 1-0.
DBU added to their lead in the third inning after Sophomore Austin Krum singled and advance to third on a single by Senior Cody Montgomery. Krum scored on a ground out by Senior Jeremy Goldschmeding which gave DBU a 2-0 lead.
UT-San Antonio answered in the bottom of the inning with two runs of their own, off of three singles and one walk.
Senior Damian Gomez led off the next inning with a double and scored on a RBI single by Senior Brad Boles to give DBU the lead, 3-2.
UT-San Antonio scored their final run of the day in the bottom of the fourth off of a hit batsman, a fielders choice, and an RBI single.
The Patriots padded their lead in the top of the fifth inning with a Krum double, who scored on a sacrifice fly after he had advanced to third on a wild pitch. Goldschmeding singled, which brought up Senior Drew Holder, who hit a two-run homerun for his 20th of the season, giving DBU a 6-3 lead.
DBU extended their lead to 12-3 in the ninth inning when they scored six runs off of one hit, six walks, and five wild pitches.
Senior Stuart Sutherland closed the game out for DBU pitching three scoreless innings, scattering four hits and striking out two.
