DBU Volleyball Team Suffers Tough Loss to St. Edward's

Box Score

The Lady Patriot Volleyball Team suffered a tough loss Thursday night to Heartland Conference foe St. Edward's University.  The two teams traded wins the entire match, forcing a game five, where St. Edward's was able to pull out the 15-13 victory to pick up their 11th win of the year.

With the loss, the Lady Patriots fell to 7-15 overall and 2-5 in conference play, while St. Edward's improved to 11-10 and 4-4.

St. Edward's raced out to an early 1-0 lead when they pounded DBU in game one 30-22, however, DBU answered right back in game two with a 30-20 victory.  Game three and four had the same momentum swings, with St. Edwards taking game three and DBU taking game four.

Game five saw the Hilltoppers jump out to an early 8-3 lead in the race to 15 points.  A quick timeout by the Lady Patriots allowed them to regroup and they fought their way back into the final game.  DBU was able to cut the lead to two points but could not seem to get over the hump and STEU finished off DBU, 15-13.

Leading DBU was Junior Lauren Secord, who had 16 kills and four blocks, while Junior Erin Black had a strong night on the back row, with 31 digs.  Sophomore Vickie Mundell contributed with two kills, 42 assists, and seven digs, while Sophomore Amanda Emmert had 10 kills and 21 digs.

St. Edwards was led by Angela Vorphal, who had 16 kills, five digs, and four blocks, while Chelsea Barsamian dished out 47 assists and had nine digs.

DBU will be in action again on Saturday, when they welcome Texas A&M International to the Burg Center for a 2:00 match.
