DBU Ties Newman, 2-2

Box Score

Senior Courtney Schneidau scored the tying goal on a penalty kick in the 85th minute to allow the Lady Patriot Soccer Team to tie Newman University on Friday night.  DBU trailed the Jets 2-1 all night until a late penalty opened up the door and with the tie, DBU is now 3-8-1 overall and 1-4-1 in conference play, while Newman is 3-6-3 and 1-2-2.

Newman grabbed the early 1-0 lead in the 38th minute on a goal by Diana Santillan, only to be answered by DBU's first goal of the game in the 69th minute.  Schneidau passed a perfectly placed ball to Senior Mandy Gomez, who connected on her fifth goal of the season.

The Jets retook the lead in 72nd minute on Santillan's second goal of the game and held the lead until the penalty kick.  With the score tied, the Patriots and Jets played two over time periods seeking the golden goal, but neither team was able to achieve the ultimate prize leaving the score tied at two goals a piece.

Leading DBU was Schneidau, who had two points, including a goal and an assist, while Gomez had one goal, and Sophomore Goalie Emily Evans had five saves.  Santillan led the Jets with two goals, while goalie Jennifer Davis had eight saves.

DBU will be in action again on October 18, when they travel to Austin, Texas to take on St. Edward's University.  The Heartland Conference match is scheduled to begin at 4:00.
