Horned Frogs Steal a Victory From DBU Baseball Team

It took 12 innings but the Horned Frogs from Texas Christian University were able to steal a victory from DBU in a 4 and 1/2 hour game on Tuesday afternoon.  With two outs in the bottom of the 12th, Andrew Walker stole home for TCU and scored the winning run to finish off an improbable comeback.

DBU, who jumped out to an early 5-0 lead, was in complete control of the game leading into the fourth inning.  With two outs in the bottom of the fourth, TCU smashed a homerun over the center field wall to ignite the comeback.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, TCU slapped the ball around for three hits and managed to score three runs to cut the lead to 5-4 heading into the seventh.  Both teams went scoreless in the seventh and in the bottom of the eighth; the Horn Frogs tied the game up off of two hits and a stolen base.

Both teams showed the depth they have on the pitching staffs, when each team was held scoreless for the ninth, tenth, and eleventh innings.  TCU had a couple of chances to break the tie in the eleventh but clutch pitching by Freshman Victor Black did not allow the Horned Frogs to push across the winning run.  In the 12th inning, TCU managed to get a base runner to third base and the rest is history.

With the 6-5 victory, TCU improved to 3-1 on the year, while DBU fell to 3-1.  Junior Matt Tucker went 2 for 6, with two RBI to lead the Patriots at the plate, while Junior Brett Lester, who started for the Patriots, pitched 5.0 innings, gave up one run, and struck out four.  Black continued to be a force on the mound pitching 4.2 innings, with one run allowed, and eight strikeouts.

The Patriots will travel to Midland, Texas, on February 16 to take part in the Midland Tournament.  DBU will play St. Johns University on the 16th at 12:00 and then play Texas Tech that night at 6:00.
