DBU's Baseball Team traveled to
Midland, Texas , to take part in the 3rd Annual Midland Classic on Friday and Saturday. Game one of the classic paired the Patriots up against the Red Raiders from Texas Tech. DBU, who is coming off a heart wrenching extra inning loss to TCU this past week, looked like they were still feeling the negative aspects of that loss tonight.
The Red Raiders took full advantage of the lack of confidence DBU showed and pushed 21 runs across the plate tonight in a 21-1 victory over the Patriots. With the victory, Texas Tech improved to 5-3, while DBU dropped their second in a row and fell to 3-2.
Texas Tech ran out to the early lead, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning, off of five hits. The Red Raiders extended their lead and put the game away in the bottom half of the fourth when they scored 11 runs on four hits, two Patriot errors, and five base on balls.
With the 16-0 lead, Texas Tech did not relax and shut DBU down at the plate, holding them to one run on six total hits for the night. The Patriots scored their only run in the top of the ninth inning when they managed to score off of three hits. The Red Raiders finished off the game with five more runs and ended the night with 19 total hits.
The Patriots threw six different pitchers at Texas Tech but on a night like the Red Raiders were having it did not seem to matter who they put on the mound. Picking up the loss for DBU was Senior Jereme Wilson, who pitched 3.0 innings, allowed 10 hits, and seven earned runs. The Red Raiders on the other hand threw two pitchers at the Patriots and picking up his second win of the season was AJ Ramos, who pitched 8.0 innings, allowing three hits, and no runs.
Leading DBU at the plate was Junior Garrett Baker, who went two for four, with one run scored, while Sophomore Trevor Head also had a two for four night. Texas Tech was led by Matt Smith, who had a two for four night, with four RBI and two runs scored.
The Patriots will look to rebound and pick up their fourth win of the season when they take on
St. Johns
University on Saturday, at 12:00.
