Box Score

The DBU Baseball Team traveled to Stillwater, Oklahoma, to take on the #21 ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys on Tuesday afternoon.  The Cowboys entered the game as one of the hottest hitting teams in the nation and kept their bats firing on all cylinders in a 10-3 victory over the Patriots.  With the victory, OSU improved to 7-3 overall, while DBU fell to 5-6.

The Cowboys used 13 hits, three walks, and five DBU errors to score all 10 runs.  The Patriots on the other hand compiled eight hits and drew one walk to score their three runs.

OSU jumped out to the early lead by scoring two runs in the bottom of the first, off of two hits and two Patriot errors, and then added to their lead in the bottom of the third when they scored two more runs on two hits and another DBU error.

The Patriots cut the lead to 4-2 in the top of the fourth, when Junior Austin Krum led off the inning with a solo homerun.  DBU scored their next run off of back to back singles by Senior Garrett Baker and Sophomore Evan Bigley.

The fourth inning was the final time the Patriots had a chance to close the lead because the Cowboys scored six more runs on six hits and two more DBU errors in the final five innings of play.  The Patriots were only able to manage one more run in the top of the eighth when they began the inning with four consecutive singles.

Picking up the victory for the Cowboys was Joe Kent, who improved to 1-0, after pitching 4.0 innings, allowing four hits, and two runs.   Junior Brett Lester picked up the loss for the Patriots and dropped to 1-1 on the season.  Lester pitched 3.1 innings, allowed 10 hits, and five earned runs.

Cowboys second baseman, Tyler Mach, led all batters by going four for five with five RBI.  Leading the Patriots at the plate, was Krum, who went two for five, with one run scored, and one RBI.

The Patriots will look to stop their losing streak on Thursday night, when they welcome the UTA Mavericks to Patriot Stadium for a 6:00 start.
