DBU Baseball Team Loses First Game in Fresno

Box Score

The Patriot Baseball Team traveled to Fresno, California to take part in four games over the weekend.  The first game paired DBU up against Fresno State on Thursday night, which the Bulldogs defeated DBU 9-5.  With the loss, DBU fell to 11-9, while Fresno State improved to 12-13.

DBU jumped out to the early lead when Junior Austin Krum led off the game with a solo homerun, to give him three for the season and the Patriots a 1-0 lead.

The Bulldogs answered back and took the lead in the bottom of the second and third innings, when they scored four runs off of five hits and one DBU error, giving them a 4-1 lead.

The score remained the same until the bottom of the seventh when Fresno State extended their lead to 6-1, when they scored both runs off a two out homerun to right center field.

Krum then led off the top of the eighth inning with his second homerun of the game and fourth of the season to cut the lead to 6-2 but a three run bottom half of the inning posted by the Bulldogs put the game out of reach for DBU.

The Patriots managed three runs in the top of the ninth off of the three hits and two Bulldog errors, but the seven run lead proved to be too much for DBU to overcome.

Picking up his second loss of the season was Sophomore Jordan Meaker, who pitched  6.2 innings, allowed five runs, two earned runs, and struck out three, while Clayton picked up the victory for the Bulldogs by going 7.1 innings, scattering four hits, and allowing only two earned runs.

Leading DBU at the plate was Krum, who went two for five, with two runs scored, and two RBI, while five other Patriots contributed with at least one hit.

DBU will be in action again on Friday afternoon, at 2:00 in Fresno, California, when they take on Iowa University.
