#23 Sooners Edge Out Patriots

Box Score

The DBU Baseball Team traveled to Norman, Oklahoma to take on the #23 ranked Oklahoma Sooners on Wednesday night.  The Sooners defeated the Patriots, 2-1 in a classic pitcher dual.

With the win, OU improved to 24-11, while DBU fell to 18-17 on the season.

Each starting pitcher threw an outstanding game, with the Sooners Brad Burns edging out DBU's Freshman Victor Black for the victory.  Burns went to 5.2 innings, allowing no runs on five hits and striking out eight to pick up his first victory of the season.  Black on the other hand went 6.0 innings, allowed two runs on six hits and struck out seven to suffer the loss.

OU jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning after Aljay Davis raced around the bases for a triple and later scored the Sooners first run of the game off a ground out to the shortstop.

The Sooners extended their lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning, when they managed to get runners on first and second base.  OU's first baseman then hit a line shot right over the out stretched glove of DBU's second baseman Sophomore JT Bloodworth, which allowed the runner from second to score.

The Patriots scored their only run of the game in the top of the seventh inning on a two out rally to cut OU's lead to 2-1.  The rally began when Sophomore Evan Bigley doubled off the right field wall and scored on a RBI single by Senior Matt Tucker.

DBU, who has struggled all season hitting with runners in scoring position continued to struggle tonight, after they left 11 Patriots on base.  DBU was led by Bigley and Knight at the plate, with each player going two for four and Bigley scoring DBU's lone run.

The Patriots will look to improve their 9-1 record at home when they continue action Friday night at Patriot Field.  DBU will welcome Missouri State to DBU for a two game series with game one starting at 7:00 on Friday and game two on Saturday afternoon, at 2:00.
