Lady Patriot Soccer Team Shuts Down ECU to Pick Up Second Victory

The Lady Patriot Soccer Team picked up their second win of the season when they defeated East Central University 4-0 on Thursday night.  With the dominating victory, DBU improved to 2-1, while the Tigers fell to 2-2-2 on the season.

DBU started off the scoring after Junior Mandy Gomez attempted a header that hit off the cross bar and rebounded to the right leg of Sophomore Sarah Meierhofer, who scored her third goal of the year to give the Patriots a 1-0 lead.

Goal two came 20 minutes later when Freshman Ally Bales attempted to score from 15 yards out but a save by the goalie deflected into play and Freshman Chelsea Ross took advantage of the rebound scoring the Patriots second goal of the game.

Ross using her adrenalin from the first goal scored her second goal of the game three minutes into the second half.  DBU finished off their scoring four minutes later when Freshman Ashleigh Elkins scored her first goal of the season and the fourth of the night for the Lady Patriots.

With the 4-0 lead, the Lady Patriots did not let up and continued their strong defensive play for the entire game.  DBU held the Tigers to only six shots, which four of them where on goal.  Sophomore goalie Emily Evans made all four saves to secure her first shutout of the season.

DBU will look to continue their strong play on the defensive side of the ball and their high-powered offense when they welcome Texas Woman's University to Patriot Field, on September 11, with a 7:00 start.
