Corbell Strong Play in Goal Helps Lady Patriots Defeat ACU, 1-0

The Lady Patriot Soccer Team battled their way to a 1-0 victory over Abilene Christian University on Thursday night at Patriot Field.  The victory improved DBU's record to 5-4 overall, while ACU fell to 4-4.

ACU dominated the first half smashing eight shots on goal, but could not manage to break DBU's goalie, Freshman Haley Corbell.  Corbell, who made 12 saves on the night, picked up her third shutout of the season with her strong play.

Sophomore Allyson Bales continued her string of scoring goals for the Lady Patriots, when she connected on the game winning goal early in the second half.  Junior Sarah Meierhofer passed a perfectly placed ball to a running Bales, who made a move around ACU's defender then stuck the ball in the back of the net past the Wildcats goalie.

The Lady Patriots stiffened up their defense for the rest of the contest and continued to keep the pressure on ACU.  DBU continued to attack ACU's defense narrowly missing two more goals.  Along with Corbell's play in goal and the Lady Patriots defense, DBU secured the non conference victory.

DBU will be in action again on October 10, when the play host to Newman University.  The match is scheduled to start at 7:00 on Patriot Field.
