Lady Patriot Volleyball Moves Forward to Conference Tournament

The Lady Patriots volleyball team ended their 2008 regular season at Burg Center Saturday afternoon against the University of the Incarnate Word Cardinals.

DBU started out on fire by winning the first set 25-22, but strong performances from Cardinal hitters Edie Weise (12 total kills), and Kim Kvapil (18 total kills, 15 defensive digs) were too much in the end for DBU.

The Lady Patriots played hard, but could not come up with a win.  Freshman Kaylyn Frink for the Lady Patriots produced a team high 15 kills.  She also racked up 7 defensive digs throughout the match.

Big defensive efforts were given by Junior Amanda Emmert (22 defensive digs) and Sophomore Mallory Scott (21 defensive digs) who combine for a total 43 digs over the course of the match.  The Lady Patriots could not ahead of the Cardinals, losing three straight sets to end the match, 25-20, 25-17, and 25-18.

The Lady Patriots finished off the regular season, but will be competing in the Heartland Conference Championship tournament November 14 and 15.   UT-Permian Basin will be hosting the tournament in Odessa, Texas.  DBU is the fourth seed, and will face the UT-Permian Basin Falcons Friday night November 14, at 7:00 p.m.
