Patriots Struggle Against TCU

Box Score

DBU's Baseball Team dropped their second game of the season on Tuesday night when they loss to TCU, 6-1.  The Patriots could not manage to get their bats going when needed and continued to struggle hitting batters, which gave TCU a couple of easy bases to work with.   With the win the Horned Frogs improved their record to 2-2 overall, while the Patriots fell to 2-2.

TCU did not waste anytime taking an early 3-0 lead in the first inning.  The Horned Frogs managed to get their first three base runners on base by two hit by pitches and a walk.  Junior Brandon Bantz, who handles the catching duty for the Patriots, committed a throwing error to allow the first run to score and then a two out, two RBI single scored the final two runs of the inning.

The Patriots scored their only run of the game in the top of the third inning when Junior JT Bloodworth reached base on a hit by pitch and advanced to second on an error by TCU.  Bloodworth then scored when Sophomore Austin Knight ripped a double down the right field line.  The Horned Frogs worked their way out the rest of the inning when they got Junior Evan Bigley to pop out to the first baseman and Senior Nick Santos to ground out.

The Horned Frogs extended their lead to 6-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning, after the second batter reached base on a hit by pitch.  TCU then had three consecutive hits, including a single, double, and a home run to score the final three runs of the game.

DBU threatened to cut the Horned Frogs lead in the fifth and ninth innings, but a couple of base running errors kept the Patriots from scoring the much needed runs.  The Patriots managed six hits and left 8 base runners on base.  TCU scored six runs on eight hits and one DBU error.

Sophomore Victor Black picked up the loss for the Patriots, after he tossed 4.0 innings, allowing three hits, and two earned runs, while Sophomore Ryan Millard allowed the other three runs on five hits, in 2.2 innings of work.

Knight continues to swing a hot bat finishing his night going two for three and one RBI.  Bigley went two for four, while Santos and Junior Trevor Head each had one hit.

The Patriots will be in action again on Thursday night, when they play Nevada at the Dr. Pepper Ballpark in Frisco, Texas.  The game is scheduled to start at 7:00.
