Patriots Pitching Secures Two Run Victory Over Jacksonville

Box Score

The Patriots scored three unearned runs in the first inning to pull out a 3-1 pitchers dual victory on Friday night against Jacksonville University.  The starting pitchers for each team combined to pitch 13.2 innings, allowing one earned run, on eight hits, while striking out nine.

Junior Jordan Meaker was the victor for the Patriots, improving his season record to 6-1, while DBU as a team improved to 32-15.  Glenn Witkowski suffered the loss for the Dolphins and fell to 2-2, while JU went to 25-25 with the loss.

DBU scored first taking a 3-0 lead after one inning of play.  Sophomore Ryan Enos started the inning off by reaching base and advancing to second base on an error.  Sophomore Ryan Goins moved Enos over to third base on a single to right field.  Junior Evan Bigley drove in Enos on an infield single for the first run of the game.  The Patriots scored their next two runs on a double steal by Goins and Bigley.  The Dolphins catcher threw the baseball into centerfield and a hustling Bigley was able to score from first base.

The Dolphins managed their lone run of the game in the seventh inning on a single that barley got over the outstretched glove of DBU's shortstop Austin Knight.  Senior Tyson Bagley, who entered the inning with two outs and the bases loaded, struck out the Dolphins pinch hitter to shut the door on the come back try.

Meaker ended his night by pitching 6.0 innings, allowing one run, on three hits, and striking out four, while Bagley picked up his ninth save of the season after he pitched 2.1 innings, allowing no hits, no runs, and striking out four.

Goins swung the bat well going three for four, with a run scored, while Bigley and Senior Drew Pirtle managed the other two hits for the Patriots.

DBU will wrap up their three game series with the Dolphins on Saturday at Patriot Field in double-header action with the first game starting at 12:00.
