Lady Patriot Volleyball Has Strong Showing in New York Tournament

The Lady Patriot Volleyball Team traveled to Brookville, New York, to take part in the Long Island C.W. Post Tournament on August 29 and 30.  DBU competed in three matches and was one set away from going 4-0 in the tournament, only losing one match, to the number 25 ranked Regis Rangers.

The Patriots bounced back from their tough opening round loss to win their final three matches in the tournament over, CW Post Bentley University and Franklin Pierce.  DBU left New York with a lot of confidence and 2-1 record.

Match one against Regis saw the two teams compete for over two hours with the Rangers winning the first two sets, to only have DBU answer by winning the next two sets to force a fifth and final set.  The Patriots fell a little short in the final set to suffer their first loss of the season.  Junior Lauren Zegarelli led the way with 12 kills, while Junior Vickie Mundell dished out 37 assists.

The Patriots easily took care off CW Post in match three, winning 3-0, and then match four and five saw the Patriots win each match in five sets.  The Lady Patriots used their experience and their new additions to the team to help secure each of the two victories.  Over the two matches, Senior Lauren Secord led the way with 27 kills, while Mundell continued her strong play with 101 assists and 11 kills.

Freshman Kaylyn Frink also had two strong matches in the victories after she contributed with 36 kills, while Junior Amanda Emmert had a strong day on the defensive side of the ball, with 53 digs.

The Patriots will be in action again on September 5, 2008 when they travel to Joplin, Missouri to play the University of Central Oklahoma, at 1:00.
