DBU's Women's Soccer Team fell to the Texas A&M Commerce Lions in double overtime on Monday night at Patriot Field. The Lions scored the Golden Goal four minutes into the second overtime to improve their record to 2-0, while dropping the Lady Patriots to 0-2.
The Lady Patriots took the early lead in the first half after Sophomore Allyson Bales crossed a perfectly placed ball to the center of the field. Freshman Brittany Layne was the receiver of the pass and smashed the ball pass the Lions goalie to give DBU the 1-0 advantage.
DBU took the lead into half and looked determined to maintain the lead until the 66th minute when the Lions scored the tying goal off a deflection in the box. Meagan Lasley was the recipient of the deflection and took advantage of the confusion around the net to sneak the ball pass DBU's goalie, Haley Corbell.
The Patriots were two inches from winning the game in the first overtime when Layne struck a ball from 25 yards out, which sailed over the goalies head and hit the top cross bar deflecting back into the field of play. The Lions cleared the ball and the Lady Patriots never had another good chance.
TAM-C scored the winning goal off a pass from Lasley to Chelsey Haight who floated a ball over the top of Corbell's head to secure the victory.
DBU will look for their first victory of the season when they play host to Angelo State on September 5, for a 7:00 match on Patriot Field.
