DBU's Women Soccer Team traveled to Odessa, Texas, on Saturday afternoon to take on UTPB for a Heartland Conference show down. The Lady Patriots outscored the Falcons, 4-3, to secure their third straight victory and stay undefeated in Heartland Conference play.
With the victory DBU is now 3-2 and 2-0, while UTPB fell to 3-5 and 1-1.
The Lady Patriots scored the first goal of the match to take a 1-0 lead into the second half. Sophomore Ally Bales dribbled the ball down the field and deflected the ball off the goalie to score the first goal of the game.
Each team opened up their offenses in the second half combining to score six goals. UTPB tied the score in the 65th minute on chip shot over DBU's goalie's head. Senior Tasha Garr then headed a ball into the corner of the net off a pass from Bales to give the lead back to DBU.
Junior Sarah Meierhofer gave DBU a two goal lead in the 77th minute when she scored an unassisted goal. UTPB answered right back in the 81st and 82nd minutes to tie the score up on back to back goals.
With the scored tied at 3-3, Meierhofer scored her second goal of the game off a pass by Freshman Kourtney Edward's. The goal, which happened in the 87th minute proved to be the game winner.
The Lady Patriots will look to keep their winning streak alive on September 25, when they travel to San Antonio, Texas, to take on the University of the Incarnate Word for a 6:00 match.
