Box Score

The Dallas Baptist University Patriots Baseball Team dropped to 31-12 for the season on Thursday night at Olsen Field in College Station, Texas as they gave up a 3-1 lead in the final three innings to lose to the Texas A&M University Aggies by the score of 4-3.

Starting pitcher Junior Victor Black pitched seven and one third innings allowing only three runs on five hits while striking out six Aggies batters. Sophomore Chris Haney was stuck with the loss dropping his record to 4-3 for the season as he pitched two thirds innings in relief, allowing one run on one hit while striking out two.

Leading the Patriots at the plate was Sophomore Jason Krizan who went 3 for 4 on the night, hitting three doubles in the loss.

The Aggies took the early lead as they scored one run on Black in the bottom of the first inning when Brooks Raley tripled to right center to later score on a Luke Anders sacrifice fly ball to center field.

The Patriots were quick to respond as they put up one run in the top of the second inning. Krizan led things off for the Patriots by hitting a double to left center field to reach base. Junior Ryan Thompson then singled up the middle to score Krizan and tie the game, 1-1.

The DBU offense was able to give Black some breathing room in the top of the fourth inning as they scored two runs to take the lead, 3-1. Krizan led off the inning with his second double of the game, hitting a laser to right center field. Thompson reached first base on an Aggie throwing error, advancing Krizan to third. Senior Brandon Bantz reached first on a fielder's choice, with Krizan out at home plate on the play and Thompson advancing to second base. Junior Austin Knight crushed the ball down the left field line for a two RBI double, scoring Bantz and Thompson on the play to give the Patriots the lead.

The Aggies managed to score one run in the bottom of the seventh and added another in the eighth to tie the game, 3-3, going into the top of the ninth inning.

The Patriots could not get anything going in the ninth inning, but the Aggies rallied in the bottom of the inning to score one run off of Haney as Brodie Greene hit a walk off single to left center field with the bases loaded to score Kevin Gonzalez and end the game, 4-3.

The Patriots are back in action as they face the Aggies for the second game of the series in College Station, Texas, on Friday, May 1. The first pitch is slated for 6:35 p.m.
