The Lady Patriots Soccer Team improved their record to 2-1-1 on Saturday night at Patriot Field as they tied the Southwest Baptist University Bearcats in double overtime action, 2-2. The Bearcats move to 2-0-1 on the season after the tie.
The Bearcats jumped ahead quick after scoring in the eighth and 14th minute of the first half to grab an early 2-0 lead.
Sophomore Brittany Layne responded by capitalizing on a DBU penalty kick for the Lady Patriots first goal, her fourth of the season, to leave the score 2-1 going into halftime.
DBU tied the score 2-2 in the 66th minute when Sophomore Kourtney Edwards played a through ball to Layne who dribbled past the SBU goalie, then placed the ball in the back of the net for her second goal of the game, fifth of the season.
The game finished in a 2-2 tie after 90 minutes of regulation play plus two 10 minute overtime periods.
Sophomore Haley Corbell stood out for the Lady Patriots on the defensive side of the ball as the goalie. Corbell recorded 11 saves on the night.
The Lady Patriots are back in action on Thursday, September 10, as they travel to Edmond, Oklahoma, to take on the University of Central Oklahoma. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
