Lady Patriot Soccer Improves to 3-2 in Heartland Conference

The DBU Lady Patriot Soccer Team picked up their third consecutive win on Saturday afternoon, with a 3-1 victory over the visiting Jets from Newman University. With the win, DBU moves to 5-8 overall on the season, and 3-2 in Heartland Conference play.

The Lady Patriots took an early lead less than two minutes into the game, after Junior Kourtney Edwards headed in the corner kick played by Senior Ally Bales. Edwards' second goal of the season gave DBU a 1-0 lead.

Junior Brittany Layne found an opening in the Jet defense, but her shot in the 33rd minute of the first half was denied by the Newman goalkeeper, Christina Farid. Farid was unable to control the shot, and Bales shot off the rebound found the back of the net for a 2-0 DBU lead.

The Lady Patriots held the shot advantage at the half, taking 10 shots while limiting the Jets to only four.
Senior Chelsea Smith scored her second goal of the season off the cross from Lane less than a minute into second half, giving DBU a commanding, 3-0 lead.

Newman finally got on the board at the 60:05 mark when Mallory Hurst scored on the assist from Alli Zingo.

The Lady Patriots will travel to Odessa on Thursday to take on the University of Texas-Permian Basin. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
