THE RUNDOWN
No. 1 DBU (14-0-1, 11-0-1 LSC) took down St. Edward's (4-8-4, 4-5-3 LSC) in dominant fashion on Wednesday night in Austin, Texas. The Patriots strung together four unanswered goals in the first half en route to a 6-2 victory over the Hilltoppers.
Â
It took DBU less than two minutes to initiate the offense, as
Leah Hurley punched in the first Patriot goal of the evening less than 90 seconds into the match.
Â
In the 14th minute,
Ashley Washburn got involved, delivering a pass to
Kylar Coffman, who finished the play for a quick 2-0 lead.
Â
The Hilltopper defense responded, keeping DBU out of the net for the next 20 minutes, but the floodgates opened shortly thereafter. In the 35th, Washburn facilitated the offense again, this time dishing an assist to
Calla Schrock for the sophomore's first career goal. Less than six minutes later,
Erin Dull joined Schrock, netting her first goal as a Patriot to push DBU ahead 4-0 at halftime.
Â
In the opening minutes of the second half, St. Edward's answered for the first time, as Sierra Padilla notched a tally on an assist from Daylan Nates in the 52nd to make it a 4-1 game.
Â
But
Sydney Hopper took her turn, working with
Skylar Belanger to push the margin back to four with her third goal of the season in the 62nd minute.
Â
As the match entered its final stages, the Hilltoppers logged their second goal of the night off the foot of Madison Spitzer with just over 10 minutes to play, but the Patriots rebounded once more, with
Allie Allen claiming the final goal of the night on an assist by
Emma Croley in the 86th minute to bring the match to a 6-2 final score.
