Lady Patriots Play to 1-1 Tie Against St. Mary's University

Six seniors played their final game at Patriot Field on Saturday afternoon, as the Dallas Baptist University Lady Patriot Soccer Team hosted their Senior Game against St. Mary's University. After 90 minutes of regulation play and two overtime periods, the two teams ended in a 1-1 tie.  The Lady Patriots are now 7-9-1 on the season, and 5-3-1 in the Heartland Conference as they prepare for their final game of the regular season against Newman University this coming Saturday.

Playing in her last game at Patriot Field, Senior Ally Bales gave the Lady Patriots a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute of the first half, with her ninth goal of the season. Sophomore Baylie Hill picked up the assist on the play after her cross from the right corner, found Bales open on the opposite side. Bales shot sailed past the goalkeeper, into the top right corner of the net, for the 1-0 lead.

DBU held the lead for the remainder of the half and for 28 minutes in the second period before the Rattlers tied it up. Melinda Gentry scored for St. Mary's at the 72:58 mark to tie the game at one goal apiece.

Neither the Lady Patriots nor the visiting Rattlers were able to score for the remainder of the game or for the two overtime periods, leaving the Lady Patriots with their first tie of the year.

At halftime, DBU honored Bales, Ashleigh Elkins, Beryl Hough, Ashley Saunders, and Chelsea Smith, all playing in their final home game of their careers.

DBU will play their final game of the regular season this Saturday in Wichita, Kansas. The Lady Patriots will face the Newman Jets at 1:00 p.m. at Wilkins Field.
