Patriots Knock Off Horned Frogs, 8-7

The Dallas Baptist University Patriot Baseball Team defeated the fifth ranked Horned Frogs from TCU Monday night, 8-7. A tie game through five innings, the Patriots scored the game winning run in the bottom of the sixth for the victory.

Junior Brandon Williamson picked up his fifth win of the season for the Patriots, after pitching a complete game, allowing only five earned runs on six hits, and striking out five.

The Horned Frogs took an early 5-0 lead over the Patriots as they scored two runs in the top of the first and three in the second on four hits.

The Patriots responded in the bottom of the second inning with five runs of their own to tie the game, 5-5. After Junior Jason Krizan and Senior Travis Meiners led off the inning with a pair of singles, Freshman Duncan McAlpine walked to load the bases, setting up a three run double to center field by Junior Chris Haney. Junior Tyler Robbins then belted a double to right field, scoring Haney and Senior Austin Knight who reached on a walk.

After a two run third inning by TCU, Freshman Austin Elkins crushed a two run double, scoring Meiners and Behmanesh who had each singled, leaving the score, 7-7.

The Patriots broke the tie and took the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth inning as McAlpine singled to second base, scoring Senior Ryan Enos who had reached on a walk.

The Patriots are back in action at Patriot Field on Thursday, March 25 as they host the University of Washington Huskies. The first pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m.
