Patriots Fall to Huskies, 7-4

The Dallas Baptist Patriot Baseball Team fell to the Washington Huskies on Thursday evening, 7-4. The visiting Huskies scored four runs in the top of the ninth, sealing the win, and dropping the Patriots to 14-8 on the season.

Freshman Duncan McAlpine was stuck with the loss for DBU after pitching one inning, and giving up three earned runs on two hits.

The Huskies were first on the board scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. Bradley Boyer led off with a double and advanced to third on Doug Cherry's bunt. Pierce Rankin followed with a two RBI double, giving Washington an early 2-0 lead.

After a scoreless first for the Patriots, Senior Ryan Enos reached after being hit by a pitch, and later scored on a RBI double by Senior Travis Meiners, making it a 2-1 game.

The Huskies tacked on another run in the top of the sixth on a homerun by Rankin, but Enos responded with solo shot of his own in the bottom of seventh to pull the Patriots to within one, 3-2.

In the eighth, Freshman Austin Elkins singled for the Patriots and later advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Junior Chris Haney, bringing Senior Austin Knight to the plate. The second baseman delivered with a two run homerun to right field, giving the Patriots a 4-3 lead.

The Huskies scored four runs on two hits in the top of the ninth, and held the Patriots scoreless in the bottom of the inning for the 7-4 victory.

The Patriots will be in action again tomorrow at Patriot Field as they welcome the Huskies back for game two. The first pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
