Box Score

The Dallas Baptist University Patriots faltered late and dropped a heart breaker on Tuesday evening in Huntsville. After leading for the first seven innings, the Patriots fell to the Sam Houston State Bearkats, 9-7. The Patriots' four game slide moves them to 14-11 on the season.

DBU took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Senior Ryan Enos collected his 20th RBI of the season after singling to right field, scoring Junior Tyler Robbins.

The Bearkats responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning, but the Patriots scored five in the top of the second to increase their lead to 6-1. Senior Austin Knight's single with three men on, only managed to score one run, scoring Sophomore Ryan Behmanesh who had reached on a single. With the bases still loaded, Robbins delivered with a grand slam homerun to give the Patriots a five run lead.

DBU only managed to score one more run on the night after another RBI single by Enos in the top of the fourth.

The Bearkats scored one run in the third, fourth, and seventh innings, but still trailed DBU, 7-4, heading into the bottom of the eighth. SHSU scored five runs on five hits against Junior Chris Haney, chasing the DBU pitcher from the mound, and took the 9-7 lead for good after holding the Patriots scoreless in the top of the ninth.

Haney was dealt the loss, his third of the season, after facing only six batters and giving up four runs on four hits.

The Patriots will return to action on Friday evening, April 2, as they host South Dakota State University. The first pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m. at Patriot Field.
