Patriots Lose on Walk-off Home Run

Box Score

The Dallas Baptist Patriot Baseball Team held a 5-4 lead over the University of Evansville heading into the ninth inning, but gave up a walk-off home run to fall to the Purple Aces, 6-5. With the loss, the Patriots drop to 17-13 on the season.

Brandon Williamson pitched seven and a third innings, giving up eight hits, and only three earned runs, while striking out seven. Sophomore Ryan Behmanesh was dealt the loss after entering the game in the eighth and allowing the game winning home run the following inning.

The Purple Aces were first on the board after scoring one run in the opening inning, but the Patriots regained the lead in the fourth. Junior Jason Krizan, who reached on a single to center field, and Freshman Duncan McAlpine, who drew a walk, later advanced to second and third on a wild pitch. Freshman Austin Elkins cleared the bases for the Patriots with a two RBI single, giving DBU a 2-1 lead.

The score remained the same until the eighth when DBU went back to work at the plate. After Krizan reached on a walk, Senior Ryan Enos doubled to center field to give the Patriots runners on second and third with no outs. Behmanesh and Elkins each picked up RBI singles followed by yet another RBI single by Senior Travis Meiners, giving the Patriots a 5-1 lead.

Williamson's lone mistake on the night came in the bottom of the eighth, when he gave up a three run home run to Cody Fick, making it a 5-4 game. Behmanesh entered the game one batter later and managed to get out of the inning after two walks and a pop out.

The Patriots were retired in order in the ninth, and after a leadoff single for the Purple Aces, Eric Stamets connected on a two-run, walk-off home run, giving Evansville the 6-5 win.

The Patriots will continue their three game series with the Purple Aces with game two tomorrow. The first pitch is set for 6:00 p.m.
