The Dallas Baptist Patriot Baseball Team traveled to Waco, Texas on Tuesday evening, only to fall to the Baylor Bears, 6-2. The loss drops the Patriots to 28-24 on the season, as they head into their final three games of the season later this week.
Baylor starter Willie Kempf picked up the win for the Bears as he held the Patriot offense in check for five innings, giving up only one run on six hits.
Freshman
Will Lane was dealt the loss for the Patriots as he gave up seven hits and three earned runs in two and two thirds innings pitched. The Patriot bullpen had strong performances from Junior
Jared Stafford, Freshmen
Stuart Pudenz and
Duncan McAlpine to combine for five and one thirds innings of relief, striking out seven Baylor Bears and giving up only one run.
Senior
Ryan Enos led the Patriots at the plate, going 2-3 with a walk and collecting his team leading 18th homerun of the year and 56th RBI.
The Baylor Bears got off to a quick start scoring two runs in the first inning, but DBU would respond quickly in the top of the second. Senior
Travis Meiners reached on an infield hit and later scored on a two-out, RBI double to centerfield by Junior
Chris Haney, making the score 2-1.
Baylor tacked on an unearned run in the bottom of the second inning, and added two more runs to their lead in the bottom of the third, one of them being unearned, to make the score 5-1.
After a scoreless fourth, Baylor added yet another run in the bottom of the fifth inning off Junior pitcher
Jared Stafford, as Baylor's Josh Ludy scored on a two-out single to make the score 6-1.
Senior
Ryan Enos scored the final run for the Patriots in the eighth, as he hit a solo homerun to right field, making the score 6-2.
The Patriots will be back in action Thursday night as they travel to Wichita, Kansas to close out the season with a three game series against Wichita State University.
