Box Score
After two consecutive road losses to Fresno State University, the Dallas Baptist University Patriots returned closer to home on Tuesday evening, but their struggles continued as they faced UT Arlington. The Patriots managed only ten hits, eventually falling to the Mavericks, 4-10. The loss drops DBU to 24-20 on the season, with only 11 games left on the schedule.
Freshman
Aaron Gilbreath entered the game in the second, and was dealt the loss after pitching only one inning, and allowing four runs on four hits against the seven batters he faced. The Patriots made seven pitching changes throughout the game, in an effort to cool off the hot hitting by the Mavericks.
UTA took a 4-0 lead heading into the fifth, before the Patriots finally got on the board. After Sophomore
Ryan Behmanesh and Senior
Travis Meiners each reached on a single, Junior
Logan Moro pushed Behmanesh across the plate with a RBI double, scoring the lone run of the inning, and making it a 4-1 game.
UTA responded with three more runs off four hits in the bottom of the fifth, giving the Mavericks a comfortable, 7-1 lead.
After a scoreless sixth, the Patriots managed two runs in the top of the seventh to make it 7-3. Behmanesh reached on his second single of the night, and Freshman
Duncan McAlpine followed with a single of his own. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch to give the Patriots runners in scoring position with no outs. After a groundout and a strikeout, Junior
Tyler Robbins eventually scored both runs with a single to left field.
Refusing to be outdone, the Mavericks picked up another run in the seventh and two in the eighth, extending their lead to 10-3.
McAlpine scored the final run of the night for the Patriots, after drawing a walk, advancing around the bases, and finally scoring on a wild pitch, leaving the score, 10-4.
The Patriots will travel to College Station on Thursday as they prepare for a three game series against Texas A&M. Thursday's game is expected to begin at 6:35 p.m.
