Patriots Take Game Two Against Huskies with 8-3 Win

Box Score

The Dallas Baptist Patriot Baseball Team picked up their second victory over the Washington Huskies, clinching game two of the series with an 8-3 win. The victory marks the tenth win of the season for DBU as they improve to 10-5.

Senior Jared Stafford earned his third win of the season after pitching seven and two thirds innings, allowing only two runs on five hits, and striking out five. The trio of Juniors Ryan Behmanesh, Taylor Massey, and Senior Chris Haney took care of business from the mound for the rest of the game, but it was Haney who picked up the save after coming in for the final out in the ninth.

The Patriots never trailed in the game after opening with a three-run first inning. With two men on, Senior Jason Krizan hit his team-leading eighth double to left center, scoring Sophomore Austin Elkins, and giving DBU their first run of the game.

With Krizan on second and Senior Tyler Robbins on third, Behmanesh earned his seventh RBI of the season with a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Robbins and advancing Krizan. Junior Kenny Hatcher then delivered the Patriots' third run with his single that pushed Krizan across the plate.

Sophomore Duncan McAlpine gave DBU their next two runs of the game in the top of the sixth. After Hatcher reached on Husky fielding error, McAlpine blasted his second homerun of the season with a shot over the right field wall, giving the Patriots a 5-0 lead.

The Huskies picked up their first run in the bottom half of the sixth, thanks to a walk, a hit by pitch, and a single that loaded the bases. Caught in a jam, Stafford walked in a run but managed to get out of the inning with a groundout from the very next batter he faced.

A leadoff single by Junior Landon Anderson in the top of the seventh resulted in another Patriot run when Krizan connected on his second double of the night to make it a 6-1 DBU lead.

Washington tacked another run in the bottom half of the seventh, but DBU responded with a two-run eighth. Anderson's sacrifice fly to center scored McAlpine who had reached on a fielder's choice, making it a 7-2 game, and Junior Joel Hutter, who drew a walk earlier in the inning, scored the Patriots final run of the game on a UW wild pitch.

Even with two on and no outs in the ninth, the Huskies could only muster up one run in the inning, leaving them with their tenth loss of the season.

The Patriots will close out the series against the Huskies tomorrow as they go for the three-game sweep. The first pitch at Husky Ballpark on Saturday is slated for 3:00 p.m.
