The Dallas Baptist Patriot Baseball Team defeated Houston Baptist on Saturday afternoon, taking the rubber match from the Huskies, 15-3. With the win, the Patriots improve to 17-10 on the season.
The Patriots strung together 21 hits throughout the course of the game led by Senior
Jason Krizan who ended the day with three hits, two of which were doubles, resulting in four RBI. Senior
Tyler Robbins picked up four hits on the day while Senior
Josh Wilson and Junior
Ryan Behmanesh each had three hits for the Patriots.
Sophomore
Stuart Pudenz earned the win after pitching two innings, giving up no runs on two hits while striking out two.
DBU scored four runs in the top of the first after three consecutive singles to lead off the inning brought Behmanesh to the plate with the bases loaded and no outs. Behmanesh reached on a fielder's choice to score the first run of the day, and Junior
Landon Anderson picked up the fourth single of the inning to score another run, making it a 2-0 lead for DBU. Junior
Kenny Hatcher then delivered a two-RBI single of his own, scoring Anderson and Behmanesh to give DBU a 4-0 lead.
After a scoreless bottom half of the inning by the Huskies, DBU added two more runs in the top of the second thanks to Krizan's first, two-RBI double. Krizan's team-leading, 15th double of the season scored Robbins and Wilson to make it a 6-0 advantage for the Patriots.
A RBI single by Robbins in the fifth scored the seventh run of the day for the Patriots, followed by yet another two-RBI double by Krizan that made it a 9-0 game. Behmanesh made it back-to-back doubles with his next at bat to score Krizan, and Junior
Joel Hutter pushed Behmanesh across the plate with a RBI single, making it an 11-0 lead.
Houston Baptist put their first runs on the board in the fifth, scoring three, but DBU responded with a three-run seventh and a one-run ninth to win the series with a 15-3 victory. Hutter scored all three Patriot runs in the seventh with his third homerun of the season while Anderson scored the final run of the day with a RBI triple in the top of the ninth.
The Patriots will return to Dallas on Tuesday, March 5, for a home game at Patriot Field against the University of Texas-Arlington. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m.
