Patriots Defeat Seattle 15-14, with Walk-Off Single by KJ Alexander

The Dallas Baptist Patriot Baseball Team won in dramatic fashion over the Seattle Redhawks with a walk-off single by Freshman KJ Alexander in the bottom of the ninth inning. With the 15-14 victory, the Patriot s improve to 25-12 on the season.

Seattle took an early lead to start the game, scoring four runs in the top of the first, and one in the second to take a 5-0 lead.

The Patriots finally got on the board in the bottom of the third, scoring two runs. After a leadoff single by Freshman K.J. Alexander, Junior Landon Anderson scored both runs for the Patriots with his fifth homerun of the season.

After a scoreless fourth by the Redhawks, DBU opened up the game in the bottom of the inning as they scored eight runs on eight hits. Alexander singled with two outs and Anderson followed with a single of his own, to set up a three-run homerun by Senior Tyler Robbins, chasing Redhawk starter Arlo Evasick from the game. Senior Jason Krizan crushed the first pitch from Seattle reliever Blaine Jones over the centerfield wall for a solo homerun. Juniors Ryan Behmanesh and Kenny Hatcher each singled and Senior Josh Wilson walked to load the bases. Junior Joel Hutter added a three RBI double to clear the bases and Sophomore Duncan McAlpine singled, scoring Hutter and giving DBU a 10-5 lead after four innings.

Seattle added a run in the top of the fifth, but DBU responded with an unearned run in the bottom half of the inning. Anderson reached on an error and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Behmanesh, making the score 11-6.

The Redhawks scored another run in the top of the sixth and five runs in the top of the seventh, to take a 12-11 lead.

The Patriots tied the game in the bottom of the seventh inning on a RBI double by Hutter, leaving the score 12-12. DBU added two more runs to retake the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning. Alexander walked and later scored on a RBI double by Robbins. Robbins later scored on a wild pitch to give DBU a 14-12 lead heading into the ninth.

Seattle managed two unearned runs in the top of the ninth inning, to tie the game at 14-14 on a throwing error to set up another Patriot rally. Hutter doubled to lead off the inning and moved to third on a sacrifice fly by Senior Chris Haney. Alexander followed with his fourth hit of the afternoon, scoring Hutter and giving the 15-14 win.

Haney picked up the win, pitching one and a third innings, improving to 1-2 on the season.
The Patriots and Redhawks are back in action on Saturday afternoon at noon, where the Patriots will go for the series sweep at Patriot Field.
