Senior
Jason Krizan blasted a two-run walk-off homerun in the bottom of the ninth inning to lead the Dallas Baptist Patriot Baseball Team past the 7th-ranked Horned Frogs from TCU on Monday evening at Patriot Field. The 9-7 win completes the Patriots' two-game season sweep of TCU (29-12) after a 4-3 victory over the Horned Frogs back on March 1 in Fort Worth.
Senior
Chris Haney picked up the win for the Patriots (26-13) after coming on in the eighth and pitching one and a third inning, but it was Senior
Brandon Williamson who gave the Horned Frogs trouble most of the night. The right-handed ace threw seven innings, allowing four earned runs on seven hits while striking out four.
Trailing 1-0 after the top of the first, Krizan started the night off by scoring the first DBU run in the bottom half of the inning. His NCAA-leading 25th double of the season, scored Senior
Tyler Robbins who had reached on a single, and tied the game at one run apiece.
DBU took their first lead of the night in the bottom of the second, scoring four runs on three hits. After Junior
Kenny Hatcher drew a leadoff walk, Sophomore
Duncan McAlpine and Freshman
KJ Alexander each singled to load the bases for Senior
Josh Wilson. Wilson was hit by an errant Horned Frog pitch, earning him the RBI as Hatcher was pushed across the plate. Junior
Landon Anderson then delivered a two-RBI double down the right field line to give the Patriots a 4-1 lead. Robbins scored the final run of the inning with his sacrifice fly, giving DBU a 5-1 advantage.
Williamson kept the TCU hitters at bay for the first four innings, allowing just his second run of the night in the fifth. A leadoff homerun posted another run on the board for the Horned Frogs, narrowing their deficit to 5-2.
Junior
Joel Hutter, who blasted three homeruns in Saturday's loss to Seattle, belted his seventh bomb of the season in the bottom of the fifth to make it a 6-2 game.
The Horned Frogs pushed two across the sixth and one in the seventh to pull within one run, 6-5, but DBU responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the seventh. Krizan connected on his second double of the game, and later scored on a double by Hutter to put the Patriots in front by two, 7-5.
The lead was short-lived for the Patriots, however, as the Horned Frogs used a walk, a wild pitch, and a pair of singles in the top of the eighth to tie the game at 7-7.
Haney set the stage for Krizan after forcing two Horned Frog groundouts and a fly out to retire the side in the top of the ninth.
With the game tied and only two outs left in the bottom of the ninth for the Patriots, Robbins put the winning run on first after being hit by a TCU pitch. With the next at bat, Krizan seized the opportunity and belted a walk-off, two-run shot that cleared the scoreboard in right field, sending Patriot Field into a frenzy. Krizan now has seven homeruns on the season to go along with a team-best, 51 RBI.
The Patriots will welcome Mississippi Valley State to town later this week as they prepare for a four-game series against the Delta Devils. The first pitch on Thursday is set for 6:30 p.m.
