The Dallas Baptist Patriot Baseball Team took the first game of the series against Charlotte on Thursday evening at Patriot Field with a 8-6 win over the 49ers. The Patriots improve to 38-16 with the win.

Jared Stafford picked up the win for DBU after pitching six and one third innings, allowing three runs on six hits, and striking out two. Senior
Chris Haney picked up his 13th save of the season after closing out the final one and two thirds innings.
The Patriots took a 4-0 lead in the bottom half of the third, with all four runs coming with two outs on the board. Senior
Tyler Robbins was the first to reach base after being hit by a pitch and was the first Patriot run to score after Junior
Landon Anderson blasted a two-run homerun to left field. With the bases cleared, Senior
Jason Krizan singled through the right side, and Junior
Joel Hutter made it 4-0 with the Patriots' second, two-run homerun of the inning.
Charlotte crept back into the game with a solo homerun in fourth, making it 4-1, and a pair of RBI triples in the fifth, making it a 4-3 game.
DBU tacked on another run in the bottom of the seventh after Krizan reached on a single and later scored in the inning on a passed ball.
Still leading 5-3 in the bottom of the eighth, the Patriots put the game away after posting three more runs on the board. After a pair of leadoff singles and a walk loaded the bases, Robbins pushed home the sixth Patriot run of the night with a RBI single to left field. With the bases still loaded, Anderson drew a walk to score the second run of the inning, and Haney scored on a wild pitch to close out the eighth and give DBU a 8-3 advantage.
The 49ers scored three runs in the top of the ninth, but their rally fell short as Haney closed out the game to give DBU the 8-6 win.
The Patriots will resume action on Friday afternoon with the second game of the series against the 49ers. The first pitch in tomorrow's game is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
