The Dallas Baptist Patriot Baseball Team closed out their regular season on Saturday afternoon, splitting the final two games of the series against Charlotte. After Friday's game against the 49ers was delayed until Saturday morning due to inclement weather, the Patriots clinched the series win with a 12-8 victory in game two. The 49ers were victorious in game three, taking an 8-2 win to close out DBU's regular season.  The Patriots finish their 2011 schedule with an overall record of 39-17.

Junior Jordan Staples got the start in game two, lasting three and two thirds innings, allowing four runs on seven hits, while striking out four. However, it was Freshman Patrick Hicks who earned the win after pitching only one inning, and giving up a solo run on two hits.

After Charlotte took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, the Patriots quickly responded with eight runs over the first three innings. Junior Ryan Behmanesh's two-run homerun and a groundout by Junior Joel Hutter scored the first three Patriot runs of the day in the first, giving DBU a 3-1 advantage.

In the second, Junior Landon Anderson continued his stellar series performance with a two-RBI double to right field, scoring Sophomore Austin Elkins and Senior Josh Wilson who reached on a walk and a single, respectively. Senior Jason Krizan pushed the next Patriot run across the plate with a RBI single, giving DBU the 6-1 lead. The final run of the inning came on a double steal by Krizan and Anderson, who was on third. As the 49ers attempted to chase down Krizan in between first and second base, Anderson snuck down the third base line, beating out the throw to the plate for a 7-1 DBU lead.

Sophomore Duncan McAlpine blasted a solo homerun in the bottom half of the third to give the Patriots a commanding 8-1 advantage.

Charlotte responded with three runs in the fourth, one in both the fourth and fifth innings, trimming their deficit to 8-6, but DBU increased their lead in the bottom half of the inning. After Senior Tyler Robbins drew a leadoff walk, Anderson pushed him across the plate with a triple and also scored himself on the play thanks to a 49er throwing error.

Two more Patriot runs in the seventh increased their lead to 12-6, putting the game out of reach. The 49ers only managed a pair of runs in the top of the eighth, giving DBU the 12-8 win.

Holding a 2-0 lead in the series, the Patriots strung only five hits together in the third and final game on Saturday afternoon, falling 8-2.

Senior Brandon Williamson picked up the loss after throwing seven innings, allowing four earned runs on 11 hits, and striking out two.

Trailing 1-0 through the first two innings, Krizan knotted the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the third with his sacrifice fly that scored Wilson.

Another solo homerun by McAlpine in the fourth gave DBU their only lead of the night at 2-1, but Charlotte managed to push across three in fifth and sixth innings and one in the ninth for the 8-2 win.

Having concluded their regular season, the Patriots will now await a decision from the NCAA Selection Committee as to whether or not they will be awarded an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
