Lady Patriots Shutout Washburn, Extend Win Streak to Three

For a team playing a large portion of their schedule on the road, the Lady Patriot Soccer Team seems to feel right at home.

Kerry Edwards extended her shutout streak to 378 minutes and four different Lady Patriots scored a goal as DBU defeated Washburn, 4-0, in Warrensburg, Missouri.

Courtney Baxter started the scoring for the Lady Patriots as Danielle Presley saw her shot attempt clank off the post onto the foot of a waiting Baxter. DBU increased their lead to 2-0 later in the period as Brittany Lane broke past two defenders to beat Mallorie Monhollon, the Washburn goaltender, to the back post.

Jake Cox and Lea Sedwick connected on a set piece to notch the Lady Patriots third goal and put the score out of reach. Cox floated a free kick in on net from about 30 yards out and Sedwick was somehow able to get to the ball through a crowd of defenders to nudge it past Tori Fuglister, the new Washburn goaltender. Courtney Edwards added to the lead with her first goal of the season by catching Fuglister off her line and beating the Washburn goaltender from about 25 yards out.

"What a good weekend," said Head Coach Michelle Lenard. "It was important for us to get off to a good start on the road. We had a great win Thursday night to beat a ranked opponent and we wanted to come out today and prove that it was not a fluke. We got a decisive win and that was good to see our players respond to Thursday's win with such great effort."

"We got a lot of players in the game today and that just shows the depth of this club. Our starters got to rest and that will be important as we finish this five games in ten day stretch we're in. This is as good a run defensively that we've ever had. Kerry Edwards has been outstanding and our defenders have been on lockdown mode. That will be important to maintain as we continue."

The Lady Patriots next play Tueday night in Commerce, Texas, as they take on Texas A&M Commerce at 7:30.
