The Dallas Baptist Patriot Baseball Team were able to get back to their winning ways, breaking a two game losing streak, by defeating Creighton University on Saturday evening by the score of 5-2, in Omaha, Nebraska, at TD Ameritrade Park.
With the win, DBU improves to 35-16 on the year, while the Bluejays fall to 21-24 and have their season long, five-game winning streak snapped.
Freshman
Cy Sneed improved to 8-3 on the season, pitching five and one-thirds innings, allowing two runs on eight hits, striking out three and issuing two walks. Junior
Stuart Pudenz picked up his sixth save of the season, in his longest relief outing of the year, shutting down Creighton for the final three and two-thirds innings, allowing one hit and striking out seven to secure the victory.
Creighton was able to strike first, scoring a run in the bottom of the second inning with two outs on a single, walk, and a RBI single, to take an early 1-0 lead.
DBU was held without a hit until the top of the fourth, when Junior
Ronnie Mitchell led off the inning with a flare to left field and stole second, setting up a RBI single by Junior
Boomer Collins. Senior
Landon Anderson followed with a two-run homerun into the Patriot bullpen in rightfield, his third of the season to give DBU their first lead of the series. Senior
Ryan Behmanesh added a base-hit bunt, to set up a two-run homerun off the bat of Junior
Duncan McAlpine into the seats in rightfield, giving the Patriots a 5-1 lead.
The Bluejays lead off the bottom half of the fourth with a double off the wall in right-centerfield, setting up a RBI infield single, despite a spectacular sliding play by second baseman Junior
Austin Elkins and a questionable call by the first base umpire, leaving the score 5-2 after four innings.
The Patriots and Bluejays will be back in action for the rubber match on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 for the third and final game of the series.
