DALLAS – An early second half goal by junior
David Balyeat was enough for the Dallas Baptist Men's Soccer Team to top Newman University 3-2 on Saturday. Three lead changes and two ties occurred in the contest, with the Patriots (5-8, 3-3) prevailing. DBU is now 2-3 on its six-game homestand and improves its win total from last season of four in the win. Participating in its eighth one-goal match, the Men's Soccer Team now sits 3-5 in those types of matches this campaign.

Freshman Seth Elliot began the scoring for the Patriots at the 2:28 mark on a pass from senior
Rodrigo Barrientos to go ahead 1-0. It was the defender's second goal of the season. DBU held the momentum early in the first half with Newman (1-13-1, 1-6) unable to create many chances.

Things shifted in favor of the Jets around the 20
th minute, and Luca Anelli capitalized on some high percentage shots that found the back of the net giving NU the advantage 2-1. Anelli's first score was off a long punt from goalkeeper Steven Hamersky in at the 22:21 mark. A few minutes later Anelli knocked another goal in to give NU its only lead of the match 2-1.

With 11 seconds left before to halftime, the Patriots tied the game again off freshman Chris Lofton's first career goal.

Balyeat punched in the game-winning goal at the 46:51 mark with a header off a corner kick from sophomore
Brian Robertson. Robertson's pass counted as his second assist on the night, with his first contributing to Lofton's goal earlier. Balyeat matched his career best fifth goal on the big point.

Chris Crawford reflected, "Tonight the guys battled for each other and supported each other which was great to see."

Newman outshot the Patriots 23-20 on the game, but DBU did place more shots on goal 12-9. Leading Dallas Baptist offensively were Balyeat and Elliot attempting four shots apiece, and Elliot shooting .100% SOG. Freshman
Riley Alvey and Barrientos each followed with three attempts, with Robertson adding two.

Anellie notched a game-high 11 shots, four counting on goal. NU also had a trio of players record multi-shot attempts including: Victor Rojas, Robert Bozarth with three, and Robin Allard with two.

Returning to the net was sophomore
Chuck Schober (3-5) delivering a big performance allowing two goals, while facing 23 shots and grabbing seven saves.

Hamersky (1-9-1) was saddled with the loss allowing three goals and nabbing nine saves. Â Â

Prior to the match, lone senior Men's Soccer Player
Rodrigo Barrientos received recognition for Senior Day. The Carrollton, Texas, native has played 14 career games for DBU and posted three goals, two assists, eight points, and 27 shots.

He has knocked in two game-winners against Harding University (9/5/13) and St. Mary's University (10/17/13). In the win versus St. Mary's Barrientos posted career bests in goals with two and points with five.

"It is always great when you get the win and even better when you do it at home on senior night," Crawford stated. "The guys had some great moments tonight and it is always wonderful to see those things work out, proving how the guys have grown tremendously this year."

Coach Crawford followed, "We will keep grinding and fighting, which is one thing I love about this group of guys."

Dallas Baptist concludes its longest home stand of the year on Monday against Rogers State University at 12 pm.
