The Dallas Baptist Women's Soccer team opens Heartland Conference play this weekend at McMurry University on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 pm. The Patriots (3-3-1) hope to find some consistency on this road trip after playing .500 in non-conference action.
PREVIOUS OUTING – DBU was unable to weather a late surge by the Hilltoppers dropping a 2-0 decision in a shortened contest due to lightening. Lauren Heller delivered both goals for SEU, with the first occurring less than a minute before an hour and a half delay in the 76
th minute.
The Patriots weren't without opportunities early on, firing three of five first half shot attempts on goal, but with no luck. Heller added her second goal to place the game out of reach minutes before officials ended the contest at 84:41 minutes. The contest counted as a non-conference match.
ECCLES LEADS OFFENSE – Sophomore
Lindsey Eccles holds the team lead with three goals, including two game-winners. The Denton, Texas, native received Heartland Offensive Player of the Week in week two for her clutch performances against Central Oklahoma and West Texas A&M.
SCOUTING MCMURRY – McMurry (3-3) enters Saturday's contest coming off a 1-0 victory over the University of the Southwest. Destin Connally knocked in the lone goal at the 31 minute mark off a corner kick. Chanel felder picked up 10 saves in the shutout.
The Warhark's 15 team goals ranks third in the Heartland, and 2.50 goals per game average puts the team in second. Aleria Luna leads the team with three goals.
The Patriots handled McMurry in two contests last season claiming both matches 10-0 and 5-0 at home and on the road, respectively. Current senior
Danielle Presley notched a hat trick in the first contest and contributed two goals at Abilene.
Sophomores
Annie Wells and
Dixie Kurrus also found the back of the net in the road match. Junior
Lea Sedwick tallied three goals combined between the two games against the Warhawks. Junior
Kerry Edwards worked the net in both shutouts.
WORTH NOTING – St. Edward's two goals were the first allowed by the Patriots at home this season. Opponents had been held scoreless for 257:62 minutes. DBU's next two road games complete the only trip in October. Last season, the Women's Soccer team went 9-1 in Heartland Conference games.
