Two rivaled opponents meet again on the pitch Monday afternoon with the Dallas Baptist Women's Soccer Team playing at St. Edward's University. Both squads met a week ago in Dallas with SEU claiming a 2-0 win. Each team handled the opposition in their respective Heartland Conference openers Saturday.
PREVIOUS OUTING – Shattering season-highs in scoring, six different Patriot players scored and contributed to a team best, eight goals on the season at McMurry in an 8-1 win. Senior
Danielle Presley led the charge with a hat trick, two coming at the start of the second half that was amongst an 8-0 run. Six goals were tallied for DBU in the frame.
Also contributing to the offense were sophomores:
Rebecca Kernen,
Ashley Cox,
Jolee Patterson,
Lindsey Eccles, and
Dayna Debacker.
PRESLEY HEATING UP – The forward notched her first hat trick this season and briefly took the team lead in goals at four, before Eccles punched a goal to even the tally. The Flower Mound, Texas, native has garnered a team-high 25 shot attempts on the campaign and has scored nine points in two of her last three games. Her first goal of the year came in Dallas against Texas Woman's University on Sept. 24.
ASHLEY COX STEADILY CONTRIBUTING – Second year starting forward
Ashley Cox has been quietly contributing solid play for the Patriots so far this season. She's second in the team with three goals and third with eight points. The native from Midlothian, Texas has notched scores in two of the last three games. DBU is 3-0 in games Cox finds the back of the net.
SCOUTING THE HILLTOPPERS – St. Edward's (6-0-2, 1-0) earned its first conference win over Oklahoma Christian Saturday 5-0. Rachel Murray accounted for two of the goals and for the second straight match SEU prevented an opposition shot attempt.
The Hilltoppers have been victors in four straight games, including the 2-0 win in Dallas. The Heartland co-champions have an active five game shutout streak.
Last season Dallas Baptist went 2-1 overall against the Hilltoppers, and did split two contests in Austin, Texas. DBU captured the victory in a 1-0 game in the Heartland Conference Championship Tournament.
