OPENING TIP – The Dallas Baptist Men's Basketball Team takes to the road for its first pair of games away from The Burg Center this season. It will be an area the Patriots hope to see an improvement of results after going 5-8 in away contests last year. DBU (1-1) also will have an opportunity to create a winning streak on the early campaign.
Â
LAST TIME OUT – A strong run late in the second half stifled any chance of a comeback, and propelled DBU to its first win on the season 93-74 over Dallas Christian College. Sophomore
Jonathan Perry led all scorers for consecutive contests with 18 points.
Â
Junior
Wesley Gipson and redshirt freshman
Myles Johnson, provided a lift off the bench for the Patriots netting 17 and 16 points, respectively. Sophomore
Charles Allen added a steady performance with 14.
Â
Perhaps the play that shifted the final momentum of the game was a three-pointer by senior
Remy Ndiaye with 5:53 minutes left. The 6-6 forward used the trifecta to go along with an eight-point half that resulted in 10 on the night. It also sparked a 10-0 run that eventually led to DBU gaining its largest lead in the victory by 21. Â
PERRY LEADS SQUAD – DBU's returning leading scorer is the sophomore out of Kerrville, Texas, who finished second on the team last season averaging 11.2 points per game. The lone player in front of him was graduate
Nick Fox, and Perry has since taken on the role expected of him through the first two contests.
Â
The forward is shooting 45.2-percent (14-for-31) through two games, while also reaching game-highs in points with 28 and 18, respectively. In the season opener, Perry shot a perfect 15-for-15 from the free throw line and is 17-for-18 on the campaign.
Â
SCOUTING EAST CENTRAL – East Central University (0-2) will host their home opener against DBU on Saturday in search of that elusive first win. In their most recent match-up, No. 13 Midwestern State knocked off the Tigers 81-67. Â
Â
Colby Carr posted a team-high 17 points and contributed three rebounds and assists apiece. The other player reaching double-figures for the Tigers was A.J. Moutry with 12 points. ECU did shoot 40-percent from the field in the loss, and finished even in rebounds with 23.
Â
It has been two years since the squads last met on the court, with DBU holding the all-time series 9-5. The last meeting took place Dec. 7, 2011 in Dallas with the Patriots winning 78-64. DBU won both match-ups that year, with a previous contest played on the road and finishing in favor of the Patriots 94-76.
Still, East Central has posted a 3-2 advantage in the all-time series at its home arena. Â
