Box Score
A huge 5-0 win powered by four individual players scoring, and junior Kerry Edward's sixth straight shutout helped the Dallas Baptist Women's Soccer Team top Lubbock Christian (9-7, 6-2) on Saturday. The victory extends the Patriots (10-4-1, 7-1) six-game winning streak, and propels the team to second place in the Heartland Conference.
DBU didn't score until the 24
th minute off sophomore
Emilie MacDonald's fifth goal of the season off a pass from junior
Lea Sedwick. The native of Cedar Hill, Texas is building a career campaign in her second season having scored in the past four matches. The forward's goal was enough to carry the Patriots to a 1-0 halftime lead.
One goal would have been enough as the defense held LCU to a pair of shots in the contest compared to the Patriot's 20. Four goals by Dallas Baptist made the game more manageable as well.
Sedwick scored in a consecutive match with goal number three on the year at the 48:44 mark with a header off junior
Jake Cox's free kick.
Joining the trio for consecutive-match scores was another junior
Courtney Baxter, punching in back-to-back goals in the 70
th and 80
th minutes respectively. Both counted for goals number four and five in the game, with sophomore
Ashley Cox scoring her sixth of the season prior to that.
A. Cox remains second on the team in goals scored and pushes the Patriots to a 6-0 record win the midfielder puts in a netter.
"I was happy with how we played today," Head Coach
Michelle Lenard stated. "We're building momentum at the right time."
Senior
Danielle Presley remains the team leader in shots, attempting a game-high five in the victory. A quartet of players followed with three shots including: sophomore
Lindsey Eccles, Sedwick, MacDonald, and Baxter. Sedwick led in assists with two, while junior
Megan McDermand and Eccles added one.
Coach Lenard remarked, "Team got another good shutout and lots of different players contributing to goals."
Edwards (10-5-1) preserved her ninth shutout of the season facing two shots. Her past six wins have come in Heartland Conference play as last week's Player of the Week has not allowed a goal in 559 minutes. Opponents have only gotten off 17 shots combined during this span with the highest number of attempts hitting five.
Lauren Story (9-7) took the loss allowing five goals and grabbed four saves.
Dallas Baptist concludes the regular season with a 2:30 pm kickoff at Texas-Permian Basin on Monday.
