RETURN TO HARDWOOD – The Dallas Baptist Men's Basketball Team (3-3) is back in the friendly confines at the Burg Center Thursday, meeting Lubbock Christian in the Heartland Conference Opener. Tip-off is slated for 7 PM as the Patriots look to extend their three-game winning-streak at home.
Thursday's nightcap will open a trio of contests in the Dallas arena, and marks the halfway stretch for a squad that plays five of six at DBU.
LAST OUTING – On December 3rd, the Dallas Baptist Patriots traveled to Arlington, Texas, for an exhibition contest at UT-Arlington. DBU fell by a score of 81-53 to the Mavericks.
Redshirt Freshman,
Myles Johnson, led all Patriot players in scoring with 16 points, and also hit four three-pointers on the solid night. Senior,
Remy Ndiaye, was the other DBU member to break double figures with 12 points.
The Patriots were in the contest early on, trailing only 17-14 with 12:52 minutes remaining in the first half. UTA would spark a 9-0 run to gain the momentum and eventually hold the edge 46-24.
MAKING HISTORY – Redshirt Sophomore Perry entered the year expected to be a key contributor for Dallas Baptist. Through six games he has played up to the challenge, posting double-figures in all six games and leading the team in scoring on four separate occasions.
The last contest he fell shy of the double-digit margin, posting nine points in an exhibition loss at UT-Arlington.
On November 26th, Perry set a new single-game scoring record at DBU, with a 47 point performance versus Southeastern Oklahoma State. The previous mark was set last season by
Nick Fox, who racked up 41 on Nov. 23, 2012.
The second-year starter is shooting 55-percent (42-for-77) through six games, while averaging 19 points per game (ppg). At the free throw line, Perry is shooting 48-for-54 to account for a 89-percent shooting percentage. This includes a perfect 15-for-15 in the season opener versus East Texas Baptist University.
AT THE BURG CENTER – Early in this young campaign, DBU has taken advantage of a heavy home slate in the schedule. Seven of its first 10 games are slotted at the Burg Center, with one of the road contests counting as an exhibition. With a trio of games remaining, the Patriots will look to build on its early fortune of being in front of the home crowd.
Since dropping the season opener by a point 78-77 against East Texas Baptist, DBU has won three-straight and is averaging 90.7 points per game (ppg) during that winning span. In their first victory of the season, the Patriots scored a season-high 93 points over Dallas Christian College.
Homecoming was Dallas Baptist's best shooting performance as a team, pouring on 90 points at a 53-percent rate from the floor (27-51) while including a season best 52-percent (16-31) behind the arc.
A few days later, the Men's Basketball Team for DBU had another feat to add to the program's history records. Perry poured a single-game scoring high 47 points to lift DBU in a 89-80 win over Southeastern Oklahoma State.
SCOUTING LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN – The Chaps (4-1) currently are riding a three-game winning streak into Dallas, Texas after their most recent 105-68 victory over Ecclesia College on Nov. 29. Three of LCU's four victories have eclipsed the 100-point mark on the campaign, and they are averaging a league best, 96.4 points per game.
Several players have contributed to the Chap's offensive prowess, led by Eli Baker with a team-high 72 points and 14.4 ppg. Also averaging double figures in points per game is the scoring duo of AJ Luckey and Ridrell Holman with 11.0 and 10.6, respectively.
Thursday's hardwood action counts for both squads' conference opener. The Patriots finished at .500 with a 7-7 record in the Heartland. LCU enters its inaugural year in the new conference after moving from the Sooner Athletic Conference. In their last season in the SAC, the Chaps also posted a .500 record at 8-8, and were a first round exit of the Conference Tournament.
WORTH NOTING
Perry ranks first in the Heartland scoring an average 23.7 ppg and sits fifth with 142 points.
Last Friday's rescheduled contest versus Texas A&M-Commerce is set Dec. 16 at 4 PM in the Burg Center.
The Patriots have turned the ball over 78 times total, averaging 13 per game, while opponents have committed 102 at a 17.0 clip.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE – The Dallas Baptist home stand continues on Dec. 14 against Texas-Permian Basin at 2 PM for another conference match-up. DBU concludes its home stand on Monday in a rescheduled non-conference affair with Texas A&M-Commerce.
