DALLAS – The Dallas Baptist Woman's Soccer Team welcomes Heartland Conference rival St. Edward's University to Patriot Soccer Field on Saturday at 1 pm. Both teams shared the Heartland title last year finishing with identical records 18-3 and 9-1 in conference. The Patriots claimed the Heartland Conference Tournament Title with a 1-0 victory over the Hilltoppers.
Â
On Tuesday, DBU delivered its best performance of the season in a 3-0 shutout over Texas Woman's University. A trio of Patriots found the back of the net, including two DBU players recording their first goals of the season. The duo notching this mark were senior
Danielle Presley and junior
Megan McDermand. Sophomore
Ashley Cox added her second goal of the year.
Â
Junior
Kerry Edwards earned her third win and shutout of the campaign, while not recording any saves as the Pioneers were unable to attempt a shot.
Â
ECCLES LEADS OFFENSE – Sophomore
Lindsey Eccles holds the team lead with three goals, including two game-winners. The Denton, Texas, native received Heartland Offensive Player of the Week in week two for her clutch performances against Central Oklahoma and West Texas A&M.
Â
EDWARDS REACHES HALF-CENTURY MARK – Tuesday's match gave the McKinney, Texas, native her 50th career start. Edwards has racked up 175 career saves and 22 in 2013. Her season-high came at then #10 Metro State in a 0-0 tie with 10 crucial balls prevented from reaching the back of the net. The junior also has three shutouts in six games to increase her career total to 28. She was named Heartland Defensive Player of the Week the first week of nominations.
Â
SCOUTING ST. EDWARD'S – After finishing in stalemates the previous two contests, St. Edward's avoided the trifecta with a 1-0 double overtime win on Sunday at Eastern New Mexico. SEU (3-0-2) kept its unbeaten streak alive this season as Ally Lindquist found the back of the net off a cornerkick by Amanda Tabone.
Â
The Hilltoppers are led offensively by Cailyn Trapani with eight points and four goals.
Â
DBU and St. Edward's met three times last season with the Patriots winning the season series 2-1. The first meeting went to the Hilltoppers 5-1, but DBU claimed the next two with one goal victories 2-1 and 1-0, respectively.
Â
WORTH NOTING – Tuesday's 22 shot attempts against Texas Woman's were a season high, as were the 12 shots on goal. DBU is 2-0 at Patriot Soccer Field this season and has not allowed a point. Both DBU and St. Edward's are tied in Conference lead with three shutouts. The Patriots officially open Heartland Conference play next week with two road contests at McMurry and St. Edward's.
