Women's Soccer Faces Another Top 25 Opponent Saturday


CANYON, Texas – No.14 Dallas Baptist women's soccer team hopes to get on track Saturday facing another top-25 ranked opponent. No. 10 Metro State opened the year with a 2-0 victory over West Texas A&M on Thursday.
 
The Patriots were in the game most of Thursday despite getting off to a slow start and falling behind 2-0. Sophomore Lindsey Eccles punched in the lone score for the Ladies in the second period and enters Saturday's matinee with the only goal for DBU this year. Sophomore Ashley Cox, a key contributor last season with .571 shot on goal percentage, dished out the assist.
 
Other potential impact players include senior Heartland Conference Offensive Player of the Year Danielle Presley. The Flower Mound, Texas native led the Heartland in points scored with 41and 19 goals also for a conference best. The forward shot .557 shot on goal percentage.
 
Junior Midfielder, Lea Sedwick, also hopes to factor into this contest. Defending first team NSCAA All-South Central Region Midfielder and first team All-Conference Midfielder averaged 1.33 points per game for third team best 28 points.
 
Junior Kerry Edwards expects to be back in the goalkeeper position on Saturday. The McKinney, Texas native allowed three goals and recorded seven saves in the opening loss. Last season the goalkeeper recorded an 18-3 record and nabbed 44 saves.
 
Metro State punched two goals in the second period after a scoreless first, and held on for the shutout. The Roadrunners outshot their opponent 17-6, placing 11 shots on goal. Abby Rolph and Carly Nelson each scored a goal this game.
 
Brandi Farley is another player to watch tallying a team-high four goals during the preseason. Nicole Jablonski worked the shutout in the goal for Metro State. The freshman picked up two saves, and also posted a 0.80 GAA and .714 save percentage.
